Where in the world is Shannon Smith?

Ok, so I have been bad.

I haven't been keeping up as regularly as I would like.

(Let the flogging commence)

I have a reason! Honest!

First off, I have the coolest wife in the world.
That is a new-to-me 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible GT.

5 Speed, loaded.

Basically, the car I've wanted since I was about 13.

Why did she get it? Because she could.

We sold our little yellow sports car when Christian (our second son) was born. Time to trade it in on a mini-van.

I thought that someday maybe I'll get a chance to get a convertible. It just isn't practical right now! (I'd never buy it for myself - but I'd get it for her!).

She noticed that my 4x4 work truck didn't really say "professional photographer", so she found this.

Isn't she awesome!

Upcoming Digital Classes
Ok, now I'm done bragging about how lucky I am.

On Sunday, June 3rd, I'm hosting a free photography boot camp. It's based around digital photography, but it applies to any camera. It will be from 1PM until 3PM.

Lots of fun, actual studio time, and even tips on how to use household lights to give a professional portrait look.

Remodel Update

Well, the studio looks amazing. We still have a few finishing touches, but the colors and floor look great! We have several black and white framed prints hanging, and we have more on the way. Our gallery is going to look really nice.

The city of Akron is getting in on the act too. They are doing a major remodel of Kenmore Blvd and putting in new sidewalks.

As I sit here, there is a backhoe sitting right outside my door!

Hopefully it will be done by Sunday!

Anyway, I am playing catchup on orders, but I thought I'd at least let everyone know that I'm still here!

I'll post more pics soon!

Shan

Wow...so so much going on!

Well, the remodel is still under way, but looking amazing.

The walls are done (minus a few touch ups here and there), the floor is 99% done (just a little trim left) and we've started putting pictures up on the wall.

During this, we've had several portrait sessions.

Maria and Aiden were just too cute. These little cousins made it up on our wall!

Here's an email I just got (From Aiden's mom)

Hi Shannon!

We are enjoying looking at the photos so much, I can't say thank you enough for capturing such beautiful pictures of our baby! It really is going to be such a tough decision trying to narrow down which ones we want. I do have a question about one of them for you that hopefully you can do for me. We really like Aiden in number 158 but we like the color and composition (off center) of number 173. Can you possibly apply the exact same techniques to 158 that you did in 173?

I can’t say enough about how pleased we are with your work. My mom is absolutely thrilled as well and wants to order all of them too J Thank you so much for everything, not only your awesome work but you and Stephanie are just such nice people and don’t even get me started about how adorable your boys are…

We will be in touch soon with our order etc. Please let me know if it is possible to make the changes to this picture, I really appreciate it!

Talk to you soon,

Adrienne

Here's her sister's email:

Hi Shannon!
Thanks again for all your hard work--these are the most beautiful pictures of our babies that we could have imagined! My husband loves them as much as I do[. . .]

By the way, I heard from my sister that you will be adding some cute baby bottoms to your walls quite soon...
Thanks again,
Cara

I love emails like this! It lets me know that I can really make an impact in someone's life. This was the first time they have been to a professional studio, and they were so nervous about it. Obviously, they had a good time!

Other Stuff
I've been working on lots of software updates, new items, and price lists. Our print prices have come down (average 25%) and we now have set up our portrait sessions to better serve our customers.

There is no longer a price difference for in studio or on location portraits. Our sessions have been upgraded, too - we start with a pre-session consultation, so we know exactly what your vision is, and what you are looking for. We can then prepare for your big day, and we have days to come up with creative images, rather than just seconds.

We also are including a hard cover session book with the regular sessions. Now you get an amazing keepsake that will last for generations!

For the budget minded, we offer a 5 session special at up to 66% off the regular session prices. If you go with an album, you still save 40% off the regular prices! This doesn't even count the free prints we throw in, so you can really save a bundle!

Our framing pricing has changed too. All inclusive, based on the long side. Our price includes:
  • in home framing consultation
  • mat(s), if desired
  • acid free UV resistant acrylic
  • print (on your choice of papers)
  • texture
  • we'll hang them too!
Yes, we'll really hang them. We are using heavy duty hanging systems (they can hold up to 200 lbs!) and they have a built in level so it's ALWAYS straight.

We decided to offer this service because how many times have you got a frame, and just haven't had the time to hang it? (Where are those tools? Where should I put it? Is it straight? Eh...I'll do it later...)
Yes, we've done it too. Wouldn't it be easier just to have it done?

Anyway, I just wanted to share. I've been so busy I haven't had time to post lately. Sorry about that!

Next one is coming soon, I promise!
